Breast Cancer Awareness Events Planned for Albert A. Sheen Campus Oct. 21-24 The Albert A. Sheen Campus Health Services Center invites the public to its breast cancer awareness activities beginning on Monday, Oct. 21.
The following events are:
Oct. 21 – Noon: Join the team at the pavilion for educational handouts and creating a bra purse (bring a bra)
Oct. 22 – Noon to 4 p.m. – Clinical breast examinations will be administered
Oct. 23 – 11:45 a.m. – Meet at the entrance of the RTPark for the breast cancer awareness march
Oct. 24 – 4:45 p.m. – Gather in front of the cafeteria for a power walk against breast cancer

UVI Students Awarded Record Number of National Title III Scholarships Four University of the Virgin Islands students were awarded scholarships by the National Association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)Title III Administrators Inc. in September. “This is the largest number of students that have won in a single competition in the history of UVI’s participation in the competition, and this speaks well of the quality of the students at the institution,” said UVI Title III Coordinator Dayle Barry.
Jovansia Matthew was awarded the $1,000 regional scholarship, while Kelvina Salters, Renell Agard and Lesley-Anne Samuels were awarded $500 each. UVI has been participating in this scholarship program as far back as 2013. Since 1968, the U.S. Education Department implemented a Title III, Part B for the purpose of strengthening HBCUs. Financial assistance is provided to these institutions in order to assist in establishing or strengthening their physical plants, financial management, academic resources and endowment.
Additionally, funds are allocated for the improvement of campus facilities; education or financial information designed to improve the financial literacy and economic literacy of students or the students’ families.

VIUCEDD 15th Annual ‘Voices that Count’ Policy Forum to be Held on Nov. 5 and 7 The University of the Virgin Islands Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) presents the 15th annual ‘Voices that Count’ Policy Forum. The community-at-large (advocates, caregivers, family members, private businesses, and organizations) is invited to join the conversation about accessibility needs for persons with disabilities.
This year’s theme, “Accessibility is a Civil Right,” emphasizes the impact of accessibility or lack thereof has on one’s life. Accessibility is not just about physical spaces, but it includes other aspects of life such as communication. Together, we will hear personal testimonies and explore the importance of access to the lives of persons with disabilities.
The forum will feature presentations and panel discussions that will demonstrate the importance of policies that are inclusive of persons with disabilities and how they can improve the “ability” to “access” services and spaces needed to have a quality life.
The presenters will include:
• Jeiri Flores – Disability Rights Activist from Rochester, N.Y.
• Nina Garcia – Library Technician II, Self-Advocate from the Virgin Islands
• Panel Discussion from key stakeholders for accessibility policies
