The Virgin Islands Department of Human Services (DHS) advises the general public that while services have continued on St. Croix, the offices are not in a centralized location. Since the 2017 hurricanes, the offices have been temporarily situated with every attempt being made to find a permanent suitable location, according to a press release issued Friday by DHS.
Commissioner Designee Kimberley Causey-Gomez said, “While a significant amount of our financial programs is permanently located at the Mars Hill Complex, there are others yet to be determined. It is imperative that we give updated notice to clients to ensure accessibility during times of operation.”
The Senior Citizens Affairs Division offers a variety of services to individuals who are 60 years and older. Currently, the Richmond Senior Center accommodates the Information and Referral Services, which includes the Pharmaceutical Assistance Program and the issuance of Senior ID cards. Senior ID cardholders must be 60 years old. They are eligible to participate in its merchant discount program. The other programs servicing the needs of older residents are Meals on Wheels, Homemaker Services, Senior Community Employment Program, Family Caregiver Support, Foster Grandparents as well as the Adult Protective Services are temporarily located at Herbert Grigg Home for the Aged in Kingshill.
The Office of the Commissioner is at 1303 Hospital Ground, Knud Hansen Complex, St. Thomas; 3011 Golden Rock, St. Croix. serves as the clearinghouse for the department’s overall operations.
“As we continue to provide the necessary social services to the community, it is incumbent that we share every logistical information relative to our day to day operations. I encourage clients to contact the respective offices should they need additional information or direction,” Causey-Gomez said. The updated DHS directory for offices territory-wide is attached.
