Gifft Hill School, World Central Kitchen to Provide Free Snacks to Kids Under 18

Gifft Hill SchoolGifft Hill School and World Central Kitchen will be partnering to provide snacks to all school-age children 17 and under on St. John. The program will distribute snacks in both the Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. World Central Kitchen (WCK) plans to hand out nutritious snacks every Tuesday while schools remain closed.

Gifft Hill School provides experience-based, rigorous education for approximately one-third of all students on St. John; and has a strong commitment to building a compassionate community. The school was already making arrangements to provide snacks for children on St. John when Chef Christina Arriola, who heads the culinary program at Gifft Hill School, contacted WCK.

The partnership with WCK will expand the scope of the initiative. Chef Christina has volunteered with World Central Kitchen, most recently after the earthquakes in Puerto Rico. World Central Kitchen has done work all over the world to provide food to those in need during times of crisis.

Parents and guardians in Cruz Bay may pick up from the Gifft Hill School’s upper campus and those in Coral Bay may pick up from Pickles in Paradise every between 10:30 a.m. and noon on Tuesdays, starting on March 24. After arriving at a pick-up location, people are asked to stay in the vehicle; then indicate through a finger raise the number of children for whom you are picking up snacks.

For the safety of all volunteers, anyone who exits their vehicle or arrives on foot will not be served. If anyone is unable to be at either of the two pick-up locations but are still in need of a snack, please contact Chef Christina at christinaarriola@giffthillschool.org
