Central High School to Reopen Monday, Dec. 2

St. Croix Central High School

Central High School and all other Virgin Islands public schools will open on Mon., Dec. 2.

Given the extended period that Central High had been closed the last three weeks as officials worked to identify and mitigate a gaseous odor impacting the school, assembly meetings are planned for Central High students with Department of Health employees beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, according to press release from Education Commissioner Racquel Berry-Benjamin.

Following a series of tests, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has confirmed that there are no harmful emission of gases impacting the air-quality of the school.

An area of the campus near the school’s 800 Wing that was affected by spilled oil from heavy equipment has been cleaned and resurfaced with fresh concrete.
