Wha’s Happ’nin by Sis Frank

Music To Soothe Our Nerves
If you were totally unstrung by the trucks, cars and people this past week, we now can offer a few calming sounds from our own musicians.

Sybil Lefferts
Sybil Lefferts, accompanied by Sally Smith on piano, will celebrate 40 wonderful years of vacations on St. John. Tuesdays, March 7, 7:30 at Mooie’s. (Some of us thought it was this past week but Sybil didn’t want to outdo Fat Tues-day.) You will love her easy singing style.

Michael Banzhaf
Michael Banzhaf will play his flute, offering wonderful classical favorites, accompanied by Sally Smith on piano and guest artists, Rich Greengold and Katha Ricciardi. This will be a benefit for the St. John School of the Arts, Wednesday, March 8, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 at Connections and at the door. Michael and his friends are accomplished musicians who will offer a restful and relaxing evening for us all. Of course, we have our regulars who play in the clubs and restaurants. You’ll have a good time wherever there’s music.

CeCe Catches the Bus in Coral Bay
Have you seen our jazz fan, CeCe Burns in the New York Times? It’s online, but don’t try to get a hard copy. They were sold out the day of publication. It’s a story about St. John, and there she is, sitting at the “Coral Bay Triangle.” She’s famous.

“Distant Voices” a Hit
Clarence Cuthbertson brought his play to the Art School last week for those of us who can’t make the drive to Cinnamon Bay where they perform each Thursday. It was very well-presented. The actors were perfect in their roles, our own Savannah Lyons Anthony was outstanding in her first performance. Gilbert Sprauve still enjoys playing on stage (I remember him as a cast member in “Roshoman” way back in the early 60s. There was no stage, it was set in the middle of Gallows Point.

Congratulations
Congratulations to the 8 Tuff Miles participants, and to dear Miss Lucy on her 90th!

Is There Any Flavor Left?
Do we have to look like a concrete jungle? Is there nothing left of our very special appeal to visitors and residents? If the Port Authority had a heart, they would let Patrick’s “West Indian Delight” remain if only to soften the effect of cars and concrete. Doris Jadan saved the lignum vitae tree in the park, why can’t we keep Patrick’s? Are two parking spaces so valuable that they take away the last remaining touch of local flavor?

I am relying on Administrator Harley’s good judgement to guide us through this period of change and adjustment.

Big Bingo Night
Big Bingo Night at St. John School of the Arts on Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m—50/50 jackpot.
