VIPA to Heighten Security Measures at Red Hook Marine Terminal for Festival

Urman V. Fredericks Marine Terminal at Red Hook

Virgin Islands Port Authority Acting Executive Director Damian Cartwright advises travelers that security measures at the Urman V. Fredericks Marine Terminal at Red Hook, St. Thomas, will be heightened for the Fourth of July Festival celebration on St. John. These measures are being conducted at the request of the St. John Festival Committee to ensure that the community is able to enjoy a safe festival season.

VIPA Port Police, Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) officers and other law enforcement officers will be conducting security screenings at the ports. All contraband will be confiscated. In addition, persons traveling with licensed firearms will not be permitted to take them onto the passenger ferries, according to Cartwright. All firearms must be turned in to the boat captains and will be returned to the individual upon return to St. Thomas.

VIPA is asking those with licensed firearms to travel with a security box or locked container to properly secure their weapon.
