VINP Defines St. John

Editor:

I applaud Joe Kessler and the Friends of the Park organization for what they have done for the V.I. National Park and the island of St. John. The National Park defines our island; without it we would just be a smaller version of St. Thomas — more overdeveloped than we are now, more traffic, more noise, and a big hotel behind every beach on the north shore. The Holiday Inn Hawksnest, the Ritz-Carlton at Trunk, and of course, the newest, simply WM — The W at Maho. I cannot fathom how anyone can decry the National Park or the Friends organization as a monster taking over this island, when they are the only ones saving the island from the real monsters, ourselves.
