The Virgin Islands Council on the Arts will kick off the 2019 Christmas season with “A Madras Christmas at the Dorsch” on Saturday evening, Dec. 7 from 7 p.m. to midnight, at the Dorsch Center in downtown Frederiksted.

Music and merriment will be provided by St. Croix’s own and this year’s Crucian Christmas Festival honorees, Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights. The renowned quelbe band will be performing their special brand of traditional and calypso music and a sprinkling of rhythm and blues with a Caribbean flavor.

Guests planning to attend are encouraged to ”dress to impress” in their finest madras attire. The evening’s program will include raffles, door prizes and a Best Dressed Female and Best Dressed Male competition.

Special Projects Manager Kendell Henry shared his excitement about the upcoming event.

“This will be our second annual Christmas dance and we guarantee it will be an enjoyable evening. I can’t think of a better way to start the holiday season than with good music and good food.”

The Virgin Islands Council on the Arts (VICA) is an agency funded by the Government of the Virgin Islands and the National Endowment for the Arts. Founded in 1966, the Council secures local and federal funds and re-grants them to schools, churches, visual and performing artists, writers, culture bearers and other artisans. The Council also creates opportunities for Virgin Islanders to participate in exhibitions and artistic events in the Caribbean, West Africa, Europe, and the United States.

As the holiday season approaches, “A Madras Christmas at the Dorsch” promises to be a night of fun and merriment. Refreshments will include a buffet of Crucian favorites and a cash bar.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at Armstrong Ice Cream, Thomas Bakery (east) and the Dorsch Center.
