V.I. Competing at ‘World Comes to the Palms Showcase’

The Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation (DSPR) sent 12 talented Virgin Islands baseball players, ages 16 to 18, to West Palm Beach, Fla., for the 2nd Annual World Comes to the Palms Showcase, yesterday. DSPR personnel accompanying the youth are Assistant Commissioner Vincent Roberts, District Administrator STT-STJ Kirk Thomas, and Roberto Camacho, St. Croix sports coordinator.

The Virgin Islands will pool play against the following teams: USA, Puerto Rico and Aruba to move on in the showcase. Last year, a team from the USVI with Camacho and Roberts were successful in winning the showcase in the same 16-18 Division.

Representing the Virgin Islands are: Dionis Carabalo, Jaalen Roberts, Steve Rae Omarie Ventura, Jonathan Gonxalez, Jose Morales, Kevin Nicholas, Nathan Rodriquez and Guillermo Morel. The games will take place at the Fitteam Ball Park, 5444 Haverhill Road, West Palm Beach, Fla.

October 31 at 7 p.m. — (J-4 Field) VI vs USA
November 1 at 2 p.m. — (F-AS-Ms Field) VI vs PR
November 2 at Noon — (F-AS-8 Field) VI vs Aruba
November 2 at 6 p.m. — (F-MS Field) Championship
