The Virgin Islands Archery Federation is committed to the growth of archery in the territory and has recently acquired land in conjunction with the Department of Planning and Natural Resources on St. Thomas for a permanent archery range. The land is near the St. Thomas Swimming Association in hopes that it will attract Virgin Islanders to the sport and get people to support and organize a club.
The St. Croix Archers have been operating for many years and meet several times a week for great fun and the Federation believes the residents of St. Thomas would enjoy similar benefits of this wonderful sport.
Beginning in June or July of next year, the Archery Federation hopes to begin the annual Virgin Islands Cup, when islands from the U.S., British and Spanish Virgin Islands will compete on an annual basis for a travelling trophy; therefore, it would like to have a working club in place before this date so that there will be a true rivalry between islands at that time.
The Federation has set up a Facebook page for discussion about this topic at “Future St. Thomas Archery Club” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/531562440916729), and potential members or those interested in the idea are encouraged to join.
