UMass Dominates Week 3 of Summer Paradise Jam

UMass won all three of its games in the Summer Paradise Jam in convincing fashion, as the Minutemen never led by less than double digits in the second half of any of the three games.

UMass 89, University of Calgary 73
UMass started its trip to Paradise with a conclusive win over the University of Calgary. It took UMass seven minutes to get its lead above double digits, where it stayed for the rest of the game.

The lead grew to 24 in the first half but at halftime the University of Calgary trimmed the deficit to 18.

In the second half Calgary went on a 9-0 run with just over 12 minutes left in the game to cut the margin to 10. UMass responded with a 7-2 run and held onto the victory.

Tre Mitchell led the Minutemen with 27 points and 15 rebounds, Sy Chatmand had 14 points and Keon Clergeot chipped in 12 points in the victory.

Calgary’s Mason Foreman and Edwin Judy both had 15 points in a losing effort.

The University of Calgary Dinos ended their time in paradise with a 0-3 record.

UMass 114, British Virgin Islands 45
On Thursday, UMass made it look even easier against the BVI All-Stars, rushing off to the Summer Paradise Jam’s most lopsided victory.

They led by double digits after two and a half minutes and by halftime they were up by 46.

With the outcome of the game no longer in doubt, the second half of the game was played with a running clock but the visitors were still able to add 23 points to their lead in the period.

C.J Jackson scored 26 points while T.J Weeks added 17 points with Mitchell and Chatman both scored 16 points in the win.

Tavon Phillip had 12 points while Steve Parillion added 10 points in the loss.

UMass 122, Virgin Islands All-Stars 86
UMass ended their trip to the Virgin Islands with a convincing victory over a team of Virgin Islands All Stars.

It took UMass about seven minutes to take a double-digit lead, which they held onto for the rest of the game. By halftime the margin had grown to 19, with the Minutemen leading 59-40.

In the second half the Virgin Islanders cut the margin to 15 but that was close as they got, as UMass cruised to victory.

For the Virgin Islands, Khalid Gerard had 27 points, while Xavier Richards scored 18 points and Shakoy Peters added 10.

The victors were led by Mitchell with 27 points and Chatman with 20 points.
