Town Halls to Discuss Transfer of $800,000 to Upkeep of Senior Centers

The Office of Senator-at-Large Steven D. Payne Sr., in partnership with AARP in the Virgin Islands, has scheduled a series of Town Halls throughout the territory to discuss Bill No. 33-0209. The proposed measure seeks to appropriate $800,000 from the Senior Citizens Centers Revolving Fund to the Department of Human Services for the general upkeep of senior citizens community centers and living facilities in the territory. The bill is primarily sponsored by Sen. Payne.

The Town Halls are scheduled for the following dates on each island:
St. Thomas: 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall
St. John: 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, in the Cleone Creque Legislative Conference Room
St. Croix: 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Sunny Isles Amphitheatre

Representatives from the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services will also be available to provide members of the audience with an overview of the programs and services that the department offers to the territory’s senior citizens.

The senator is encouraging all senior citizens and caregivers within the territory to attend these important meetings because it will grant them with an opportunity to ask questions and express their concerns.
