To Karen Barrett, her friends and family, and the entire St. John Community

To Karen Barrett, her friends and family, and the entire St. John Community:

My name is James Julien. I am the man that was driving the car in the terrible accident in which Karen was so badly injured.

Words cannot express my sorrow, and deep regret, and horror at what I have done.

There is no apology deep or sincere enough, no restitution I can make, no way to go back and undo what I have done.

Spider Robinson said, “The world’s stupidest prayer is, ‘God, make it didn’t happen.’”

Yet it is the thought I wake up with each day, and go to sleep on each night.

I must try to do all I can, of course, and I certainly will. If I can be of any assistance, in any way to Karen and her family, I will be there.

To the rest of the community, I want to say that I beg your forgiveness.

I have done a dreadful thing. It has caused waves of pain to course throughout Coral Bay, and to rip through all of St. John.

I will commit myself to to modify my behavior, which I admit has sometimes been over the top.

If there is anything else I can do to help heal the deep wound I have caused, all you have to do is let me know.

Sincerely, and in deepest sorrow,
James Julien
