St. Thomas and St. Croix Town Halls on Health IT Aug. 5, 7

The National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved a non-profit organization, is hosting a series of listening sessions, August 5 and 7, about the development of a health information exchange in the territory

The meetings will discuss enhancing the USVI’s capacity to promote public health. According to the organization, by connecting people with providers, data and the supports they need to get healthy and stay well, the residents of the USVI will have a “world class, comprehensive health and care system that is sustainable and resilient to natural or man-made disasters.”

The town halls will be taking place at the following locations:

The group will also be hosting smaller Focus Groups and one-on-one Meetings across the islands to assess the need for a V.I. health it and digital health strategic plan, understand the current state of health it innovation in the territory, and understand specific V.I. assets and opportunities for health IT and digital technologies to improve health in the territory. sThis evidenced based planning will help inform that USVI 21st century health system.

The National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved was established in 2008 with a mission to engage underserved populations in the development and use of health information technology as a means to support and sustain health equity and economic viability based on its five pillars: workforce, innovation, policy, research, and community.

The town hall meetings are supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Interior, and in conjunction with the Medical Assistance Program at the Department of Human Services.
