CRUZ BAY — The St. John School of the Arts fundraiser party on Friday, July 25, was spectacular!

The student ensemble of Jabioseh Bruce, JaHaille Bruce, Lion’Ess Bruce, Jack Jones and Trystein Pierre, directed by Eddie Bruce and Kim Wild, performed beautifully and represented SJSA in a glorious way!

The line up included a beautiful, Latin-influenced guitar solo, popular songs, an original rap song and an upbeat calypso sing-a-long ending the performance.

The evening brought in $2,700 for SJSA that will start the new school year off right with these funds going toward expenses for our music ensemble.

Because of donations, volunteers and those who came out to support the event, the St. John community will have a young music ensemble to represent not only the V.I. culture, but also covering world music and original compositions from the young members.

The Ish took us into the rest of the night with great music, dancing and kept us in the groove!

Two games were played during the evening with two great raffles. Craig Cox won “Name that Tune” along with a $100 gift certificate to Ocean Grill. “Don’t Stop Believin’ in SJSA Singer’s Debut” was the second game with a sail trip for six with Big Blue Excursions courtesy of Mindy Michtner.

Steve Schuler won the prize and also wore the “musician’s hat” made by SJSA’s Emily Wild.

The building looked fabulous! With the donated high top tables and white tablecloths from the Westin garnished with a battery operated tea light in a jar in the center, SJSA was transformed into an elegant space with ambient lighting outside created with white lights donated by St. John Hardware.

There were two bars in the corners opposite the stage, three high top tables under the awning, three against the mirror and food tables toward the back yard on the decking! And wow, we served up a diner’s delight!

Beef stroganoff, beef brisket, chicken with vegetable stir fry, fish cakes, different and creative salads, pasta, etc!  Food donations were given by Baked in the Sun, Caneel Bay Resort, Fatty Crab, La Tapa, Mathayom, Ocean Grill, Rhumblines, Sam and Jack’s Deli, The Terrace, Waterfront Bistro and Zozo’s.

Beer, wine and water were donated by The Beach Bar, Cruz Bay Landing, Dolphin Market, da Livio, Morgan’s Mango, Skinny Legs, Starfish Gourmet, The Tap Room and Virgin Fire.

Event volunteers were many: Lorraine, Teresa, Val, Dave, Patty, Tim, Kathy, Bill, Ken, Lila, Coral, Tiareh, Emily and staff: Kazumi Schaub and LaVida Lima and board members: Angie Warren and Jessica Schnell.

SJSA thanked Penn’s Trucking for delivering the tables and the ACC for a much-needed extra cooler! SJSA also sent “a huge thank you to St. John Ice and Tradewinds newspaper who supported this event and have always supported SJSA and this community.”

Thanks to all of you who believe in our motto of “empowering the children of St. John in the arts!”
