Knowing that teachers often must dig into their own personal funds to buy classroom supplies, Sen. Donna Frett-Gregory visited schools within the St. Thomas-St. John District recently to distribute Office Max gift cards to 150 teachers. The gift cards will support teachers with purchasing much needed supplies to prepare their classrooms for the start of the new school year.

Each year, the focus has been on gifting students with school supplies. But Sen. Frett-Gregory recognizes that our teachers need assistance as well. Teachers across the territory have faced many challenges since the passing of the 2017 hurricanes — and this school year opens with many of its own.

“It is vital that we support our teachers, who are preparing the next generation of Virgin Islanders,” Frett-Gregory said. “I hope these gift cards will ease some of the burden as teachers remain committed to doing the very best for our children.”

The teachers, representing the 11 schools in the St. Thomas-St. John District, were selected using a lottery system that considered school size.

The gift card give-away is made possible by the DFG Community Impact Foundation and its sponsors.
