Virgin Islands Department of Education schools will be closed in the St. Thomas-St. John District on Friday, Oct. 18 and in the St. Croix District on Monday, Oct. 21, to accommodate American Federation of Teachers (AFT) TEACH conferences in each district. TEACH stands for “Together Educating America’s Children.”
The annual gatherings, hosted by the local teachers’ unions, bring together teachers and other professionals for a full day of professional development workshops, trainings and motivational messages surrounding public education.
This year, the St. Thomas-St. John theme is “Shine the Light on Education” and the St. Croix theme is “Educators Building the Pathway Towards a Career-Ready Future.”
Schools in the St. Croix District will operate as normal on Oct. 18 and schools in the St. Thomas-St. John District will operate as normal on Oct. 21.
