Rupert Walters Arrested for Choking Woman, Stabbing Man in Cruz Bay Restaurant

St. John TradewindsV.I. Police Department officers on St. John arrested a man who stabbed a male victim in his upper body when he tried to stop the suspect from choking an 18-year-old woman at a Cruz Bay restaurant.

The suspect, Rupert Walters Jr., 36, a St. Thomas native residing in Estate Pastory was arrested shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, and charged with Aggravated Assault and Battery Domestic Violence and Third Degree Assault.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched to a stabbing in the area. The victim said he saw the suspect, later identified as Walters, choking the woman.

When he told Walters to let the woman go, Walters pulled a knife from his pocket, swung it at the victim and stabbed him in the back of his head. Police said the woman and Walters are involved in a romantic relationship.

Walters’ bail was denied due to the domestic violence law and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections on St. Thomas pending further court action.
