The Reichhold Center for the Arts opens its gates for the 38th Season with Grammy Award Singer and Actress Brandy. “Join us at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Reichhold Center and help us celebrate our 38th birthday,” said Denise Humphrey, of the Reichhold Center for the Arts.
Since emerging with her three time platinum self-titled debut album in 1994 – released when Brandy was only 15-years-old – this trail-blazing pioneer has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. She released, “Never Say Never,” her five-time platinum selling album in 1998. Brandy is ranked as one of the best-selling female artists in American music history by the Recording Industry Association of America.
With five studio albums to her name, it is no wonder Brandy has been able to earn scores of awards, including a Grammy, an American Music Award, two Soul Train Music Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, three Billboard Awards, four MTV Awards, six Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, two Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and three Broadcast Music Inc. Awards.
Opening for Brandy is the Virgin Islands very own songstress Kenya Eugene, who has performed on stage with Wyclef Jean, R. City, Morgan Heritage and most recently at Reichhold with India Arie closing out a historic performance with a standing ovation. A gem of the Virgin Islands, Eugene stands out by having the ability to seamlessly compose and perform diverse genres of music including, but not limited to R and B, Reggae, Jazz, Dance and Pop. “Great art doesn’t come to you, and you have to come to great art.” For those who love great art, you will simply have to come to Kenya,” said Winton Marsalis, legendary jazz virtuoso.
Humphrey said the evening will be capped off with one of Reichhold Center’s famous after parties, featuring music from local disc jockey “Tony T” of 105 Jamz. The Reichhold Center’s 38th season is sponsored by International Capital and Management Company, VI Lottery, Innovative, Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Resort, FirstBank and the VI Council on the Arts. Event sponsorship also comes from Choice Wireless, Southern Glazer, TIA Associates and BVI Tourism. The Reichhold Center for the Arts is the flagship performing arts center for the University of the Virgin Islands.
