The St. John Landsharks will host a “runner’s choice” 5K and 5-Mile fun run on Sunday, Sept. 1. This event took place for the first time in 2018, replacing the Love City Triathlon & Aquathlon traditionally scheduled over Labor Day weekend.
The races will start simultaneously at 8 a.m. Each course begins and ends at Francis Bay and features a variety of terrain, including trails, road and a finish on the beach. The 5-Mile course includes a portion to Maho Bay and back. Course details can be found at www.stjohnlandsharks.com.
Registration is $5 and the event is capped at 75 participants. Walkers are welcome to sign up for the 5K (3.1 mile) event. Participants are strongly encouraged to carpool.
There are three ways to sign up:
1. Online at www.stjohnlandsharks.com until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31.
2. At the Tap Room during regular business hours until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31.
3. At Francis Bay between 6:45 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on race day, Sunday, Sept. 1 (only if space is still available).
The top male and female finisher for each course will receive a prize. Water and sports drink will be offered during the race. St. John Rescue and the V.I. National Park Service will be onsite to monitor and provide support.
Roads will remain open to vehicles, but drivers may experience short delays between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the North Shore Road’s one-way sections and near Francis Bay and Annaberg on Sunday, Sept. 1. Contact the race organizers at stjohnlandsharks@gmail.com for more information.
