How can poetry be an effective response to current events and under-reported stories? How can we use poetry to connect global issues to our local and personal contexts? Students are invited to explore these questions and make their voices heard in their entries to the Fighting Words Poetry Contest.
All K-12 students are eligible to compete in the contest (U.S. and abroad). There are prizes worth up to $100 as well as publication and performance opportunities. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 15.
Submission guidelines: Submit a poem about peace and conflict, including lines from a Pulitzer Center news story.
