Power Largely Restored After 6 a.m. Total Outage on St. Thomas

A district-wide electrical service interruption hit St. Thomas, St. John, Water Island and Hassel Island around 5:51 a.m. Monday and crews were still working to get 100 percent power restoration as of 8:30 a.m.

According to the Water and Power Authority, all feeders fell off-line as a result of a loss of generation capacity at the Randolph Harley Power Plant.

WAPA says electrical service to customers in the St. Thomas – St. John district has been restored with the exception of a portion of Feeder 6B — from Education Street west to the intersection near the former Addelita Cancryn Junior High School. 1,337 customers are affected. Line crews are taking a closer look at this portion of the feeder before fully restoring the entire feeder.

This is the third district-wide power outage affecting the St. Thomas-St. John district in particular in the week since Hurricane Dorian. There were outages Sept. 6 and Sept. 3.
