Delegate to Congress Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding the earthquakes that continue to strike Puerto Rico:

“I want everyone, and particularly the people of Puerto Rico, to know that the people of the Virgin Islands and Americans everywhere are praying for our brothers and sisters and fellow Americans in Puerto Rico.

“I am urging FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and other relevant federal agencies to send the necessary support for Puerto Rico. We must respond swiftly, competently, and with compassion. After the 2017 hurricanes, the Island has been struck by another natural disaster, causing loss of life, significant property damage and, at least temporarily, another significant power outage.

“To the people of Puerto Rico: Be strong. Your neighbors in the Virgin Islands grieve your losses, and we stand ready to help in your time of need.

I admonish Virgin Islanders to be vigilant and be prepared to take necessary precautions. I trust that our local VI Territorial Emergency Management Agency will keep our citizens aware of any danger. Additionally, I remind homeowners to check their home insurance policies for earthquake coverage.”
