The public is advised that Ocean and Coastal Observing – Virgin Islands (OCOVI) will conduct its 2018 annual meeting from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 8, for the filling of vacancies, the election of officers and the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the meeting. The public is invited.

OCOVI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization registered in the U.S.V.I. to make observational data and useful operational information on ocean and coastal conditions available to the people of the region. It works with the Caribbean Coastal Ocean Observing System (CARICOOS) in support of the goals of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System, a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

There will be a general meeting followed by a business meeting. In the first part, OCOVI will report its activities since the annual meeting of Dec. 16, 2017; it will provide an interesting illustrated presentation and will receive nominations from USVI residents in attendance to fill two upcoming vacancies on the OCOVI Board of Directors. The rest of the first hour will be spent in addressing questions, general discussion and receiving community input.

OCOVI Board members will occupy the business meeting with the approval of minutes, the treasurer’s and additional reports, new business and then elections to the board. Finally, the board will elect its officers for the next year, set the date for the next meeting and adjourn.

Candidates for election to the board may be nominated in advance by sending details of the nominee’s qualifications. Send to both the board secretary and the project director: lorrainebuckley@rocketmail.com and rawatlington@gmail.com or to OCOVI, P.O. Box 308036, St. Thomas, VI 00803.
