USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Caribbean Area Director Luis Cruz-Arroyo invites partners, clients and potential clients to participate in its February 2020 State Technical Committee (STC) meetings:

February 25 – Puerto Rico STC Meeting in the International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF) Conference Room, 1201 Calle Ceiba, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, or

February 27 – USVI STC Meeting in the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Evans Center Room 304, Kingshill, St. Croix, USVI.

The meetings will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Those who cannot participate in person may call in to a toll-free teleconference line at 1-888-844-9904, access code 4498730#.

The morning’s agenda will focus on 2018 Farm Bill overview and updates, hurricane recovery efforts under the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWPP), and updates from Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Caribbean Divisions, and federal and territorial partners.

The State Technical Committee (STC) is an advisory committee to NRCS. Many important decisions about conservation programs are made at the state level, and NRCS professionals give strong consideration to the committee’s recommendations. Committee meetings are conducted as open discussions, and they are focused on USDA programs and activities. In the Caribbean Area, committee meetings are open to all, and official membership is not required.

The committee provides input on federal conservation programs, including the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWPP), and Technical Service Providers (TSPs).
