Natural Resource Conservation Service Offers Workshop on Accessing Soil Information

USDA-NRCS: United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) invites Government of the Virgin Islands (GVI) staff, UVI employees, architects, engineers, planners, realtors, farmers, land owners, researchers, students and anyone else interested in learning more about Virgin Islands’ soils to attend a workshop on “How to Access Soils Information” on the web next week.

Web Soil Survey workshops will be held:
March 19 from 10 a.m. to noon on the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) St. Croix Campus, Research and Extension Center, Room 133
March 20 from 10 a.m. to noon on the UVI St. Thomas Campus, Sports and Fitness Center, Room 224.

Web Soil Survey provides planners, organizations, state agencies and landowners with relevant soils information to make land use and management decisions. Web Soil Survey is a simple yet powerful way to access and use soil survey maps, interpretations and data. It is a web-based application operated by the USDA-NRCS.

NRCS has soil maps and data available online for the entire U.S. Virgin Islands. In the workshop, participants will explore how to access a soil map for their area, create interpretative maps and generate a customized report.
