My Brother’s Workshop Elects Lisa Hamilton as President of Board

Lisa Hamilton

At the annual meeting of My Brother’s Workshop held this month, Lisa Hamilton, USVI Hotel & Tourism Association resident, was elected president of the MBW Board of Directors. Hamilton has served on the MBW board since 2014 and has also held the position of secretary.

“Thanks to the outstanding commitment of the staff and board of directors, this incredible organization has seen substantial growth in the last four years by expanding the program from one workshop to two, a cafe and bakery, alternative educational center, engineering R&D and marine facility to train our youth in valuable skills in order to help them obtain employment in the territory. I look forward to maintaining and building upon that momentum in order to serve the needs of the Virgin Islands community and at-risk youth,” said Hamilton.

My Brother’s Workshop, a non-profit in the USVI founded in 2007, seeks to end youth crime and violence. MBW has worked with over 1,000 students in the USVI and focuses on vocational training with a holistic approach by providing mentoring, counseling, education and job placement, and has become a leader in the Caribbean in prevention, intervention and job reentry programs for young people.

Hamilton will replace Kurt Petri, who will take Hamilton’s seat as secretary. Members of the board of directors are elected to serve two-year terms.

As stated in MBW bylaws, the president will serve as chair of the board of directors as well as the chief executive officer. Responsibilities of the president include presiding over board meetings, supervising and controlling the management of MBW in accordance with articles and bylaws, executing specific contracts and agreements, and any other duties prescribed by the office of the president and by the board of directors.
