Registration ends on Wednesday, Feb. 13, for the Viya VI Open Tennis Tournament, with play scheduled for Feb. 14 to 18 at the St. Thomas Yacht Club (STYC). Divisions include Men’s, Women’s and Mixed; Singles and Doubles, Open and B, Juniors and Adults, Tennis, and new this year, Squash.

“We wanted to extend the registration deadline to give as many people as possible an opportunity to play,” said Cate Morris, tournament co-director with STYC tennis pro Jonathan Atkins. “It’s a great venue. We have five courts. Plus, there are facilities such as restrooms and showers, food for sale, and the bar will be open all weekend. We welcome everyone to also come out and watch.”
Players can compete in a variety of divisions. There are four Open Divisions for men’s and women’s singles and doubles. In the B Divisions, there are men’s and women’s singles (NTRP rating 3.5 and under), men’s and women’s doubles (NTRP rating 7.0 combined), mixed doubles (NTRP rating 7.0 combined) and men’s doubles 60+ (for players age 60-plus years).
Play will be best of three sets for all divisions. In the junior division, there will be four age-grouped divisions: age 16 and under, age 14 and under, age 12 and under, and age 10 and under, with separate divisions for boys and girls. Draw will be closed at 16 for doubles and 32 for singles; so, register now. For squash, there will be an adult open double elimination category.
Over $5,000 will be awarded in cash prizes plus trophies.
The entry fee is $50 per person (pp) for singles and $80 per doubles team in the Open divisions. In the B Divisions, entry is $40 pp for singles, $60 per doubles team. Junior entry is $30 pp. Squash entry is also $30 pp.
Matches will take place on courts at the STYC, the host location for Semi-Finals and Finals play, as well as at the Anchorage Condominiums.
The entry fee includes an event-logo microfiber performance shirt and a welcome buffet dinner at the STYC with special entertainment. There will also be a silent auction. Auction items include a free private tennis lesson with the STYC Pro plus STYC logo hat or visor and handle grip wrap. Other items include jewelry, massages, restaurant meals, and gourmet food and wine.
