On Friday, Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced the start of an inmate work program to assist in beautification initiatives throughout the territory as well as the cleanup of towns and roadsides.

The program is a joint initiative between Government House, the Bureau of Corrections (BOC) and the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA).

“This initiative is just one of the many our administration will undertake to beautify our islands and improve the quality of life for Virgin Islanders,” the governor said. “We are all stakeholders in the efforts to improve our community, and I trust that extending this opportunity to our inmates will give to them just as much as they will to our community. I thank Administrator Sanes and BOC Director Nominee Wynnie Testamark for leading the initiative, as well as the Virgin Islands Waste Management Agency.”

The inmate work program will begin on Monday, April 15, with the first cleanup initiative starting in Christiansted Town.
