Friends of Virgin Islands National Park Announces Summer Job Opportunities

Friends of Virgin Islands National Park is seeking applicants for the 2018 Friends Summer Trail Crew program.

They are looking for 8 enrolled Virgin Islands high school students (ages 15-19) to be a part of the 2018 crew. This is a four week summer job in that will focus on the maintenance and repair of hiking trails within Virgin Islands National Park on St. John.

There will be several paid educational/activity/fun days including seashore walks, kayaking adventures, a trip to Hassel Island, zip lining experiences with VINP’s Archaeology program, and a 2-night camping trip at Cinnamon Bay.

Participating in Friends of VINP Summer Trail Crew is physically demanding and includes working outdoors for the duration of the program. Participants will be working on a conservation service project for approximately 7 hours each day. Requirements: Must be willing and able to lift up to 30 lbs. and hike along trails for distances of up to 2 miles.

Potential duties include shoveling, raking, digging, sawing, pruning, hammering and many other physical tasks.

There will be a mandatory orientation session with Summer Trail Crew staff to answer questions and provide important information to crew members and their parents prior to the start of the program.

Accepted applicants will be contacted with the specific time and location of the orientation. Please note that ferry tickets will be provided for St Thomas crew members.
