Nov. 5: Coral Bay Community Council Potluck & Annual Meeting

The Coral Bay Community Council (CBCC) is celebrating its 15th anniversary at its annual meeting and potluck dinner from 4:30-7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5, at Miss Lucy’s, the beautiful shoreline restaurant in Coral Bay, St. John. Social Hour will begin at 4:30; dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.; the event will conclude with a short business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome, whether a member or not. People are asked to please bring a dish that serves six or more; drinks will be available for sale.

“This is our fun and relaxing annual member celebration with music, great food and a performance by the talented local children’s group, the Dynamic Dancers! Please invite your neighbors to join us too on Monday, November 5th.” said Sharon Coldren, CBCC president.

Coral Bay Community Council’s tagline is understandably: “For People who love Coral Bay.”

Since CBCC’s founding in 2003, it has grown from about 200 voting members then to 450 voting members now. Voting members must be local residents or property owners in Coral Bay. Everyone is welcome to be a supporting member or make donations. The council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization able to receive tax deductible charitable contributions. It relies on dues and donations to support its work, along with grants from federal agencies and foundations, and partnerships with the VI Government and other nonprofit agencies.

Membership dues are $50 per year, which is waived if people’s budgets don’t allow for this expense. Homeowners and those who can afford it are asked to give $100 additional donation or more to support CBCC’s work. Most grants require a matching fund contribution of cash and volunteer services, so these dollars go a long way to multiplying what the council can do.

Its mission is to serve the community by protecting the environment, improving infrastructure, supporting education, encouraging social progress and planning for appropriate low-impact development.

Its work focuses on watershed management, land and water use planning, infrastructure, development and environmental issues like clean water, youth development and other issues of community concern.
