Election Season Is Here: Primary Is September 8; General Election Is November 3

 

Election season is just around the corner.

The Democratic and Republican Primary Election is Saturday, September 8, the outcome of which will determine who will continue on to face candidates from the Independent Citizens Movement as well as those with no party affiliation.

Running for Senator at Large on the Democratic Ticket are Senator Craig Barshinger, Andrew Rutnik, Iris Kern and Ronnie Jones. Republicans running for Senator at Large are Orial Webb and Jodi Hodge.

Congresswoman Donna Christensen will face off against Stacey Plaskett on the Democratic ticket for Delegate to Congress while Republicans Holland Redfield II and Vincent Danet will vie for their party’s nomination.

In the St. Thomas/St. John District, Democrats Justin Harrigan, Christina Lee, Matthew Hodge, Luis Morales, Claudette Georges, Moses Carty, Sean Magras, Clarence Payne, Shawn-Michael Malone, Franke Hoheb, Stedmann Hodge Jr., Janette Millin Young, Patrick Simeon Sprauve, Gregory Miller, Myron Jackson, Donald Cole, Riise Smith-Richards, Jean Forde, Gilmore Estrill and Clifford Graham are vying for the chance to go on to the V.I. General Election on November 6.

Democratic Party candidates for the St. Thomas/St. John Board of Elections  Lucien Moolenaar II, Edwardo Carmona, Yvonne Freeman, Arturo Watlington Jr., and Russell Williams will face off for their party’s nomination.

Residents must register by October 3 in order to be able to vote in the November 3 General Election. Absentee ballots must be requested from the V.I. Election System by October 19. Those ballots must be postmarked by November 3 and received no later than November 16.

It is too late for residents to register for the Primary Election at this time.

The V.I. Election System website,  www.vivote.gov, is off-line. The site says the account is delinquent and requests officials to contact the webmaster to pay overdue invoices.
