Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding an important $10 million grant for Governor Juan F. Louis Hospital from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to go towards the rebuilding of the U.S. Virgin Islands associated with Hurricane Maria:
“Today, I am pleased to announce a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant is for $10,522,100.70 in federal funding to Governor Juan F. Louis Hospital. The grant is for an Architect-Engineering (A&E) firm to conduct facility master planning studies and prepare design phase documents. This grant provides funds to Governor Juan F. Louis Hospital to hire an Architect & Engineering (A&E) firm to conduct USVI Hospital and Medical Facility Master Planning Studies and to also prepare Design Phase documents. This project will only encompass the Master Planning and Design Phase Services for Juan Luis Hospital (STX).
“This important grant will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously with our ongoing rebuilding efforts making the Virgin Islands whole again after experiencing two devastating hurricanes. The United States government and the international community has an obligation to work with the affected local governments to restore infrastructure, provide critical humanitarian assistance, and help recover and build back our islands.”
