Conservation Service Opens 2020 Sign-up for Environmental Quality Incentives Program

Juan C. Hernández, acting director of United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service – Caribbean Area has announced early sign-up for fiscal year the 2020 Environmental Quality Incentives Program funding to address producers’ natural resource concerns.

This environmental incentives program is a voluntary conservation program that provides financial and technical assistance to farmers and ranchers to help them install and implement conservation practices on eligible agricultural land.

Through this program, the conservation service helps farmers in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to improve their agricultural production and environmental quality.

Applications for this incentive program are accepted year-round; however, the conservation service sets application “cut-off” or submission deadlines to evaluate, rank and approve eligible applications. The following are the cut-off dates for fiscal year 2020 Environmental Quality Incentives Program are:
Period 1 cut-off date: Sept. 20, 2019
FY 2020 Evaluation and Ranking deadline: Jan. 24, 2020
FY 2020 Obligation deadline: June 12, 2020
