CFVI Seeks Applicants to Partner in Research for Project Safe Neighborhoods

Project Safe Neighborhoods — America’s Network Against Gun Violence

The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) is conducting a competitive application process for U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) FY 2018 Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) to identify a research and evaluation partner.

PSN is designed to create safer neighborhoods through a sustained reduction in crime associated with gang and gun violence. The program’s effectiveness is based on the cooperation of local, state and federal agencies engaged in a unified approach led by the U.S. attorney (USA) in each district.

Through the PSN taskforce, the United States will implement the five design features of successful PSN programs: partnerships; strategic planning; research integration and crime analysis; training; outreach and accountability to address specific gun crime and gang violence in the most violent neighborhoods.

CFVI, as fiscal agent, is conducting a competitive application process to identify a research and evaluation partner to advance the objectives of the USVI PSN Task Force. As a potential recipient of a 2019 PSN subaward, an organization must have the ability to regularly attend and participate in PSN Taskforce Meetings.

Activities will take place during an 18-month period beginning June 2019. The maximum compensation for the resulting contract will be $8,000 based on demonstration of allowable expenses associated with project activities.

The role the selected research partner will play involves:
Conducting analyses in support of enforcement efforts and other operations
Conducting a process evaluation of the project
Working with data sets and personnel from the participating agencies to coordinate the process of identifying the individuals and areas targeted for enforcement
Reviewing agency data to better understand the nature of violent crime and violent offenders in the target areas
And working with personnel of the Virgin Islands Police Department in an effort to enhance data systems, the quality of data entered into those systems, and the use of those data systems to support operational and management decision making.

Deadline: All applications must be submitted via CFVI’s online grant management database by midnight on May 20. Submissions will be accepted through CFVI’s online grant management portal at https://cfvi.co/CFVIGrantsPortal. New applicants will be required to register for an account with the Foundant system.
