Cement Truck Overturns on East End

A Centerline Concrete truck overturned on Thursday morning, January 11, on the hill above Princess Bay on the East End, blocking traffic in both directions for hours.

“It was basically an accident,” said Centerline Concrete general manager Doug Dupont. “The truck was climbing up the hill and the unit basically started to slide and it stalled. The driver put the emergency brake on and since the barrel was full of concrete, the truck just flipped on its side.”

Eventually a track hoe was used to pull the truck to the side of the road, opening one lane of traffic by around 2 p.m.

The truck remained on its side blocking one lane of traffic, however, and Centerline Concrete officials did not expect to be able to remove the vehicle for at least a few days, according to Dupont.
“We have to remove the barrel and that is going to take a few days,” Dupont said.
