Bajo el Sol Gallery will host an opening reception for Lucy Portlock and Ayn Riehle on Friday, January 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mongoose Junction gallery.

Both artists enjoy the wonderful environment with all its colors and contrasts. Using different mediums and approaches, they are sure to delight the viewers.

“A great pleasure is watching the movement and patterns, reflections and colors of water,” said Riehle. “Living on St. John provides lots of opportunities to do that. My paintings of water come from my love of those very illusive patterns in the water.”

In a nice contrast and compliment to Riehle’s acrylics, Portlock will unveil new work painted in water colors.  Porlock’s capture of the underwater world around St. John gives the viewer the feeling of being there and reminds all why they are responsible for its preservation.

Come celebrate with these St. John artists at the reception, accompanied in part by classical guitar music of David Laabs. The gallery’s regular hours are Sunday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the artists will be featured during the month of January. For more information call 693-7070.
