5:30 a.m. Ferry Run to Continue Under PSC Order

Representatives of ferryboat companies Varlack Ventures and Transportation Services Inc. testify before the V.I. Public Services Commission on Monday evening, May 19, at the St. John Legislature. Kenrick Augustus, right, of Transportation Services said his company would continue the 5:30 a.m. run from Red Hook to St. John as ordered by the PSC, but will also protest the order. Delrise Varlack, left, of Varlack Ventures, said she would first consult with her attorney, Claudette Ferron, before deciding whether to violate the PSC’s order. Both companies announced May 5 they would no longer operate runs not in their franchise agreement due to rising fuel costs and a decrease in ridership. The PSC ordered the companies at a May 9 meeting to continue the 5:30 a.m. run.
